This 3-day gorilla trekking tour begins from Kigali and crosses to Uganda in Mgahinga gorilla national park. The tour is one of the shortest and convenient, as you spend shorter transfer time as compared to Entebbe/Kampala route which takes over 7 hours.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park
Pick up from Kigali international airport by a professional guide from Roots tours & travel. Travel to Uganda via Cyanika border, proceed to Mgahinga national park which is located in the southern tip of Uganda within the Virunga massif.
Arrive at your hotel in the evening and check in. Have dinner, relax and chill at the lodge as you wait for overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Wake up early for breakfast and prepare for a primate experience in the forest. Hike to the park headquarters at Ntebeko ranger station for a short briefing. Trek the mountain gorillas in Mgahinga national park for about 2 to 8 hours, have an experience with the Nyakagezi gorilla family – the only habituated family in this park.
Spend one hour interacting with the gorillas, see them play, feed, rest and somersault in the ever green jungle of Mgahinga. On your way trekking to the mountain gorillas also get a chance to view other primate species such as the colobus monkeys, baboons, as well as numerous bird species. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Departure
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer back to Kigali via Cyanika border for departure to your next destination.
