This 7 days Rwanda highlights, is a trip like no other as you will explore the three Rwanda national parks; for game viewing, primate experiences and many more adventurous activities like the canopy walk in Nyungwe national park. This trip will start and end in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park after a city tour in Kigali
Have a pick up from Kigali town the capital of Rwanda. Have a short briefing about the 7 days’ highlights of Rwanda. Have a short city tour around Kigali, visit the craft market – Caplaki for all traditional Rwandan souvenirs, from handmade crafts to beautiful traditional fabrics and much more.
Have lunch and proceed to Akagera national park where you will spend your entire evening.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise
Wake up early for breakfast and prepare for a game drive in the only savannah park in Rwanda, Akagera national park. On this game drive a number of beautiful mammal species such as the lions, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Zebras, Elephants and Antelopes among others will be seen through the park.
After lunch you will have a boat cruise on Lake Ihema for more wildlife viewing, birding and amazing scenery of the diverse surrounding in the park. After the fanatic activities, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On this day you transfer to volcanoes national park in the north western region of Rwanda. Arrive early for lunch and head for a cultural encounter with the Ibyiwachu community village.
Get exposed to the Kinyarwanda culture through the different cultural practices that will be exhibited for example mock hunting skills, millet grinding, banana beer extraction, food processing, cattle rearing and much more.
You will have a chance to individually participate in the activities for a better experience. Later retire for a rest at your place of accommodation.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking
Rise up early for Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park, after breakfast trek to the park’s headquarters for a briefing about personal conduct while trekking the beautiful primate species. Head for the trek with a guide in lead, who will take you to the location of a specific gorilla family in the park.
Have a one-hour encounter with the family that you will be allocated to and see them play, feed on the forest fruits, rest and take pictures to keep all the beautiful memories you will have with the mountain gorillas. Later on, return to the lodge after this fun and thrilling activity.
Day 5: Drive to Nyungwe via Lake Kivu
After a warm cup of tea, drive Lake Kivu for a boat cruise. This cruise will give you a chance to see more of the hilly Rwanda, interact with the local fishermen, and view the beautiful surroundings of the lake.
After lunch will you drive to Nyungwe national where you will spend the night and have a well prepared dinner.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest
Wake up early for another primate experience but this time, a different location. After breakfast you will trek man’s closest cousins, the chimpanzees. Have a lifetime experience as you trek them in their nature homes and witness them as they play, swing on tree branches and listen to their different vocalizations.
After this encounter, head back to the lodge for lunch and later have a canopy above the Nyungwe forest. View more of the park’s flora and fauna on this walk including other primate species. Return for a rest at the lodge.
Day 7: Departure
This will be the last day of your 7 days Rwanda safari; after breakfast you will drive back to Kigali for departure to your next destination or have a sleep over at the hotel.
