Detailed 20-Day East Africa Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pickup and Kampala City Tour

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our guide will meet and brief you on the 20-day trip ahead. Visit the Reptile Village in Entebbe to see snakes, tortoises, and chameleons. Later, have lunch in Kampala and visit the museum and local markets before checking into your hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, begin a scenic 5 to 6 hour drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest park. Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking, then continue with lunch en route before checking into your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

Start the day with coffee before a 3 to 4 hour morning game drive in the northern sector of Murchison Falls, looking for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, giraffes, and antelope. Return for lunch, then take a boat cruise to the base of the falls, where the Nile forces its way through a 7-meter gorge. Look for hippos, crocodiles, and a range of bird species before returning for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Top of the Falls Hike and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, hike to the top of Murchison Falls for a view of the river and rainbow mist. Afterward, begin a long, scenic 8 to 9 hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, passing hilly landscapes and green plantations. Lunch is en route, arriving in the evening for dinner and rest.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Visit

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules. The trek can take 1 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ movements. Once you find them, spend an hour observing and photographing them. Return for lunch, then visit the Batwa pygmies in the afternoon for traditional songs, dances, and storytelling. Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 6: Departure to Nairobi City

After breakfast, drive to Entebbe Airport, stopping at the equator for photos and lunch. Fly to Nairobi, where our representative will meet and brief you on the Kenya leg of the trip. Transfer to your hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 7: Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its flamingos and rhinos. Stop at the Great Rift Valley for photos and lunch en route. Arrive in the evening for dinner and rest at your lodge.

Day 8: Full-Day Lake Nakuru Exploration

Spend the day exploring Lake Nakuru National Park, looking for elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and antelope, along with flamingos and kingfishers. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lakeshore before returning to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 9: Transfer to Masai Mara Reserve

After breakfast, drive to Masai Mara Reserve, one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations. Stop for lunch along the way, then take a short evening game drive on arrival. Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 10: Full-Day Game Drive

After breakfast, spend the day exploring Masai Mara, home to lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, giraffes, and zebras. During migration season, you may see thousands of wildebeest crossing the Mara River. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 11: Drive to Serengeti National Park via Isebania Border

After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania through the Isebania border, completing immigration formalities before continuing on. Lunch is en route. Arrive at your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 12: Full-Day Game Drive

Enjoy a full day of game drives in Serengeti, known for its large herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, elephants, and antelope, along with predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Have a picnic lunch, then continue exploring before returning to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 13: Maasai Cultural Visit

After breakfast, visit a Maasai village to learn about their culture and traditions, including dances, storytelling, and a guided tour of their homesteads. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 14: Game Drive and Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater

Take an early morning game drive in Serengeti to spot anything you missed. After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Crater, stopping at Olduvai Gorge, a well-known archaeological site. Continue to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 15: Crater Rim Hike and Game Drive

After breakfast, hike along the crater rim for views of birds, primates, and the crater floor below. Later, take a game drive inside the crater, home to the Big Five, zebra, wildebeest, and cheetah. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 16: Fly to Zanzibar

After a short nature walk and breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 17: Stone Town and Spice Plantation Tour

After breakfast, explore Stone Town’s streets, old buildings, and markets, including the cathedral, museum, and old forts. After lunch, visit the spice plantations to learn about and sample spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Return to your hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 18: Jozani National Park and Relaxation

After breakfast, visit Jozani-Chwaka National Park to see the Zanzibar red colobus monkey, along with other primates, birds, and plant life. Return to your lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon, followed by dinner and rest.

Day 19: Relaxation on Zanzibar Beaches

Spend the day relaxing on Zanzibar’s beaches. Swim, sunbathe, or enjoy seafood by the ocean. In the evening, have dinner and rest at your lodge.

Day 20: Departure

After breakfast, check out and drive to the airport for your flight home or to your next destination.

What to Bring

Pack hiking boots, a rain jacket, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, gardening gloves, insect repellent, sunscreen, drinking water, and energy snacks for the treks. A camera and binoculars help you capture wildlife along the way.
