8 Days Uganda Gorillas & Mount Rwenzori Hiking Safari

Get ready to explore the second-highest mountain in Africa, known as the mountain of the moon; the snowcapped mountain Rwenzori, and of course reuniting with your closest relatives in their natural habitat; the endangered mountain gorillas at any of the sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable national park in western Uganda.

This rare opportunity ends up being everyone’s lifetime adventure, story and experience; especially after enjoying the hospitality, watching an array of wildlife, feasting in lip-smacking cuisines, and spending nights in very comfortable lodges. The combination of tracking the endangered mountain gorillas at the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable national park and exploring the giant Rwenzori Mountain is so amazing and offers a perfect chance of capturing the magnificent views of the landscape, the gentle apes and the crater lakes.

Detailed Safari

Day 1: Arrival and Kampala city tour

Your arrival at the airport today will be rewarded with a timely reception of your tour guide, who will take you to a comfortable place, offer you a glass of Juice while briefing you on the different aspects of the safari. Thereafter, the two of you will have a city tour around the different historical and unique destinations, such as the craft market, the Uganda Museum, and the local markets to purchase a few items for the safari. Afterwards, you will drive to the Hotel for relaxation, dinner, and a night of comfortable sleep.

Day 2: Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National park

After an early morning breakfast today, you will check out of the hotel in Kampala for a 5-6 hours’ drive to the giant Rwenzori national park in the western part of Uganda, while traversing the breathtaking landscape, and amazing vegetation.

The driver-guide will be explaining to you all you see and what to know along the way to the park, but also have an en-route stopover at forepart for lunch. Your late evening arrival at your accommodation will only mean three activities can be done; refreshment, dinner, and a nap

Day 3: Hike the Mountain

At sunrise, Breakfast will be served, followed by an amazing hike of a 2300 meters’ Ruboni Hill, while enjoying breathtaking sceneries such as landscape, decorated with green vegetation that hosts a variety of reptiles and birds such as the three-horned chameleon.

You will have a picnic lunch, but also capture the views of River Baker, Mubuku River and the magnificent portal peaks, plus the panoramic views of the snowcapped Margherita summit. You will ascend to the lodge for a delicious dinner and peaceful sleep.

Day 4: Half day Rwenzori hiking and village tours

After having a relaxed breakfast, you will pick up from where you left, with tours taking some of the most rewarding trails around the mountain, views of the plantations, crater lakes, and rolling hills. The base of the mountain is captivating and offers us a perfect opportunity for photography and sightseeing.

Thereafter, you will return to the lodge for lunch, before proceeding for a village tour with the Bakozo people, who will take you through thrilling experiences such as songs and dances for about 2-3 hours. After a whole day of fun and exploration, you will return to the lodge for dinner and a peaceful nap.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest

Set off to the home of half of your closest relatives in the wild after Breakfast. The drive lasts for about 4-5 hours, with the view of the Rwenzori backdrop, plantations, and the natives carrying on with their daily activities. You will have Lunch en route, and then an afternoon arrival at the park for relaxation, dinner, and a nap

Day 6: Gorilla trekking and Batwa Pygmies adventure 

At sunrise, you will have an energy-giving cup of coffee very early in the morning, and then drive to the parks sector headquarters for registration and briefing by the park rangers who will explain the guiding rules and regulations; and then allocate you to the different gorilla families in this jungle.

The tracking exercise may last for about 1-6 hours, plus one extra hour for you to closely study these creatures, observe their unique behaviors such as eating, playing, and resting. Besides meeting the gentle Apes, the trek offers an opportunity of discovering many more residents in this jungle; notably the Unique tree species, other primates, reptiles, and Birds.

After the hike, you will return for lunch at the Lodge, followed by a visit to the Batwa Pygmies, former hunters and gatherers in the forest, reported being one of the shortest people in Africa. You will dance, sing and visit their caves, before returning for dinner and a nap at the lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Today, you will depart the lodge after breakfast to Lake Bunyonyi (second Switzerland in Africa); decorated with over 27 historical Islands, with a good share of rare bird species, cool weather and, and flora and fauna. The journey lasts for about 3-4 hours, with amazing views of undulating hills and vegetation, yet not forgetting the crystal clear water bodies.

It is a relaxing day, so upon arrival, you will have Lunch, before deciding to either relax by the beautiful shoreline, engage in swimming, or have a canoe ride to the time of dinner and sleep.

Day 8: Departure to Kampala

On this day, you will have breakfast; enjoy the beautiful sunrise, before hitting the road for a 7 hours’ drive to the airport, but with an en-route stopover for Lunch, photography, and the watching the equator demonstrations.
