Bwindi Guest House, also known as Bwindi Community Hospital Guest House, has a long history of service. It first hosted Dr. Scott Kellerman, and for over 20 years it has welcomed many visitors. The guest house has created jobs for local people, improving their livelihoods through daily and monthly wages. Tipping staff is appreciated and can make a big difference in their lives, though it is not mandatory and is done only by free will. Our tipping guide for gorilla trekking safaris covers typical amounts.

The guest house is now managed by the local hospital, which uses part of its earnings to support community health programs, doctors, and volunteers. Guests are welcomed from all over the world, including volunteers, and are served meals ranging from local to international cuisine depending on their preference. For relaxation, there is also a bar where guests can enjoy a cold drink while looking at the green surroundings of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The guest house has comfortable accommodation, with some buildings originally built by volunteers now used to serve the community and support the hospital. Guests can also visit the hospital or the nursing school before setting off for activities in Bwindi, making their stay both relaxing and educational.

Bwindi Guest House sits in the Buhoma sector, making it a good place to stay before going gorilla trekking. Gorilla trekking is open to visitors aged 15 years and above, and everyone must have a permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority as proof of payment. Before trekking, guides brief guests on the rules, including:

  • Do not mimic gorilla sounds, as this may provoke them.
  • Do not pluck leaves or feed the gorillas, as this can harm their health.
  • Avoid loud noise, which may disturb their daily activities.

Our gorilla trekking rules guide covers the full list before your trek. Pack the right gear too. Our gorilla trekking packing list covers everything you’ll need on the trail.

Look no further for a peaceful, meaningful stay than Bwindi Guest House. Book your stay and pair it with one of our Uganda gorilla safari packages to plan your full trip, or check our gorilla trekking permit cost guide to budget for your Buhoma trek.
