The best time to stay at Gorilla Closeup Lodge is during the dry season, when paths are easier to use and nearby areas stay accessible. That said, the lodge also welcomes visitors during the rainy season, with indoor activities and the chance to trek gorillas during short rains.

The lodge was founded by a Ugandan named Seith Byarugaba, whose grandfather was born in Bwindi forest. It was built using local materials to protect the natural environment, with support from the surrounding community.
Today, Gorilla Closeup Lodge is well developed, offering six types of cottages, including the Dian Fossey Cottages, George Cottage, and Royal Crafted Cottage.
