Gorilla Closeup Lodge – Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Safari Lodge Uganda

Gorilla Closeup Lodge

Visitors accessing Bwindi Impenetrable National Park from Rushaga and Nkuringo gates can stay at Gorilla Closeup Lodge. The lodge is built on a 40-acre piece of land that borders the forest where endangered mountain gorillas live.

Gorillas feed mainly on leaves, seeds, roots, stems, flowers, insects, and fruits. During the dry season, they move around more in search of food, making them harder to find, while in the rainy season they are easier to spot because food is abundant. To increase your chances of seeing them, book with an experienced guide who understands gorilla behavior and lifestyle.

The best time to stay at Gorilla Closeup Lodge is during the dry season, when paths are easier to use, and nearby areas are accessible. However, the lodge also welcomes visitors during the rainy season, offering indoor activities and opportunities to trek gorillas during short rains.

Activities include gorilla trekking, nature walks, and birding. To be well prepared, guests are advised to carry insect repellent, rain jackets, waterproof boots, a first aid kit, water, and snacks for extra energy while trekking.

The lodge was founded by a Ugandan named Seith Byarugaba, whose grandfather was born in Bwindi forest. It was built using local materials to preserve the natural environment, with support from the surrounding community.

Today, Gorilla Closeup Lodge is well developed, offering six types of cottages such as the Dian Fossey Cottages, George Cottage, and Royal Crafted Cottage. The lodge also has a spacious restaurant serving three-course meals, free Wi-Fi, and reliable customer service. It can accommodate over seventy guests at affordable prices.
