Ruhija Community Rest Camp – Eco-Lodge for Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Ruhija Community Rest Camp

Ruhija Community Rest Camp was built with natural materials, from its architecture to its facilities, making it an eco-friendly place to stay. Guests are asked not to pluck leaves or litter, and rubbish should always be thrown into the allocated pits to protect the environment.

The camp is located near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, making it very convenient for gorilla trekking. After enjoying a heavy breakfast at the camp, guests can set off for trekking in the Ruhija sector, which is only one hour’s drive from Kabale.

Many visitors also begin their nature walks from the camp, exploring nearby attractions on foot. For those who cannot walk long distances, game drives are available with safari cars that include drinks, Wi-Fi, and cover to protect from rain or sunshine.

The camp is also a peaceful place for bird watching. Many birds can be spotted here, such as the handsome francolin, African wood owl, Rwenzori nightjar, bar-tailed trogon, black bee-eater, western tinkerbird, dwarf honeyguide, African green broadbill, grey cuckoo-shrike, Shelley’s greenbul, yellow-streaked greenbul, red-throated alethe, archer’s robin-chat, white-bellied robin-chat, Kivu ground thrush, mountain yellow warbler, Grauer’s rush warbler, chestnut-throated apalis, collared apalis, yellow-eyed black flycatcher, Chapin’s flycatcher, Rwenzori batis, stripe-breasted tit, purple-breasted sunbird, regal sunbird, Lagden’s bush shrike, Doherty’s bush shrike, montane oriole, brown-capped weaver, red-fronted antpecker, dusky twinspot, dusky crimsonwing, Shelley’s crimsonwing, and many others.

Always eat from safe places recommended by your guide, drink bottled water, and avoid roadside drinks in polythene bags, which may lead to typhoid. Wash fruits before eating them to stay healthy during your safari.
