Detailed 10-Day Gorillas & Big Five Adventure Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup and city tour
Every city has something unique, which is why your adventure begins here. After arrival and registration, meet your driver-guide for a short briefing and a snack before visiting the Reptile Village in Entebbe, where you will see rescued reptiles like snakes, tortoises, and chameleons.
Afterward, enjoy lunch at Ndere Cultural Centre, then visit the museum and local markets to shop for anything you might need for your trip. Return to your hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 2: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Wake up to a delicious breakfast before starting your journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The drive takes about 7 to 8 hours and passes through beautiful scenery, green plantations, and small towns. You will stop for lunch along the way before reaching the park in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking and Batwa pygmies
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking and registration. Only one gorilla family is open for tracking in Mgahinga, with a limit of eight people aged 15 and above.
Depending on your fitness and the gorillas’ movement, the trek may take between one and six hours through thick vegetation and hilly terrain. Along the way, you may spot other primates, birds, and interesting plant species. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend an hour watching them, taking photos, and learning about their behavior before returning for lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural visit to the Batwa pygmies’ community. They are believed to be one of the world’s oldest forest tribes and are known for their traditional songs, dances, and storytelling. You will also visit their caves and learn about their history. Return to the lodge for dinner and a peaceful night.
Day 4: Transfer to Arusha City
Start the day with a cup of coffee before leaving for a 7 to 8-hour drive back to Entebbe for your flight to northern Tanzania. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will be welcomed by our representative, who will brief you about the next part of the trip. Transfer to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 5: Arusha city tour and drive to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, enjoy a short city tour of Arusha, visiting local markets and historical sites as your guide leads you. Have lunch in the city before starting your drive to Tarangire National Park. Along the way, enjoy views of the countryside and plantations. Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 6: Morning game drive and transfer to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, set off for a morning game drive in Tarangire National Park. Look out for large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, and many bird species like ostriches, flamingos, and kingfishers.
Return to the lodge for lunch and then continue to Serengeti National Park, one of Tanzania’s most famous destinations known for the great wildebeest migration. Arrive in the evening for dinner and rest at your lodge.
Day 7: Full-day exploration of the Seronera region
After breakfast, spend the whole day exploring the Seronera area of Serengeti. This region is known for lions, elephants, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and many bird species. During migration season, you may see thousands of wildebeest moving together with zebras and gazelles. Later in the evening, enjoy a sunset drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Maasai cultural visit and transfer to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, visit a Maasai village and spend about three to four hours learning about their culture. The Maasai are among Africa’s most traditional communities. Have dinner and rest at your lodge.
Day 9: Morning game drive and afternoon hike to the crater rim
Begin your day with an early morning game drive to see more animals such as lions, elephants, rhinos, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, and wildebeest.
