6 days volcanoes national park, Lake Kivu and Nyungwe national park is an over land tour to the most famous parks and destinations in Rwanda including Volcanoes National Park situated in the northwestern part of Rwanda in Musanze, which is a home to endangered mountain gorillas and it encompasses five of the eight Virunga mountains including Mountain Bisoke, Karisimbi, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura.
Visit one of the Great Lakes of Africa – Lake Kivu situated in the western part of Rwanda on the boarder of Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda for relaxation and chill outs as you head to Nyungwe National Park in the southwestern part of Rwanda for chimp trekking and magical canopy walk.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kigali international Airport
Arrive at Kigali airport the international airport of Rwanda, you will be welcomed by our professional and experienced English speaking guide who will shortly tell you about Kigali Airport. Thereafter you will head to your booked place of accommodation for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and Ibyiwachu Cultural Village
Early in the morning after your heartfelt cup of coffee, you will embark on the journey to Volcanoes National Park in the northwestern part of Rwanda; the journey covers a distance of 106 kilometers that is approximately 2-hour drive from Kigali to the park. Reach the park during lunch time, check in the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.
In the evening, you will go for a cultural tour just outside the park to experience the taste of the Rwanda Culture by Ibwachu cultural village; you will be welcomed by thunderous drumming, dances and traditional songs. Get yourselves souvenirs from the hands-on featured activities by the community people.
After this joyful activity, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking
Wake up early in the morning, have your breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park, you will be divided into groups of 8 people each.
After the briefing, hike into the jungle with an experienced park ranger in search for these endangered primates. The trek tends to be bit long taking 2-8 hours thus you are advised to go with some drinking water, snacks and packed lunch.
Spending one hour with half human primates is worthy to remember as you watch them feed their young ones, doing their day to day activities, taking pictures with them in their natural habitat makes your trip memorable. After this awesome activity, transfer back to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Kivu, Boat Cruise and Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Following your morning cup of coffee at the lodge, you will embark on 80 kilometers journey to Lake kivu for chill outs and boat cruise on this lake, it is considered to be one of the African Great Lakes and it the largest Lake in Rwanda covering an area of 2,700 square kilometers.
Enjoy swimming on this lake since it’s free from hippos and bilharzia, get into a motorized boat to explore fishing villages and explore various islands around Lake Kivu.
After the enjoyment, you will transfer to Nyungwe National Park for your dinner and overnight stay at the booked lodge.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe National Park
Start your fifth day of the tour with a cup of coffee early in the morning and transfer to Cyamudongo forest to track one of the habituated chimpanzee families in Nyungwe national park.
The trek begins at Uwinka – the location of park headquarters with a briefing and be divided into groups of 8 people. Under the guidance of a professional park ranger, you will set off into this beautiful forest in search for these human friendly primates.
This activity will not only offer you an opportunity to have face to face memories with these beautiful primates, take pictures with them while in their natural habitat, watching them feed and play with their young ones but also gives you an opportunity to hear the hooting sounds of other primates like the black faced vervet monkeys, owl-faced-monkeys, Rwenzori Colobus and much more, you will as well have a chance to spot some of them as they move from one tree to another.
The activity will last for 2-6 hours depending on the location of primates. After this longtime experience, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Morning Canopy walk and Departure through Kigali
On the last day of the tour, you will enjoy yourself with a magical morning canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park. This activity makes the park famous since it’s only found in Nyungwe national Park all over East Africa, walk 70 meters high over the jungle and 160 meters long as you explore the beautiful forest of Nyungwe.
After this activity, return to the lodge for check out and transfer to Kigali international airport for departure back home.
